Gazzetta Dello Sport reported this past weekend that Arsenal had taken ‘concrete steps’ to sign Victor Osimhen.

The Napoli marksman is heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners badly need additional strikers when you consider that Folarin Balogun, a 20-year-old, will be their most senior number nine by June when Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are released.

But reports from Italy indicate that the Nigeria international is a bonafide target.

And according to another one this morning, the player himself is keen on the transfer.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Osimhen himself is dreaming of a move to the Emirates Stadium.

If true, it’s absolutely brilliant news for Edu and Mikel Arteta, when you consider that they don’t even Champions League football secured and one target is already determined to sign for them.

Better than Vlahovic?

In January, all the talk centered around Arsenal signing Dusan Vlahovic, who ultimately joined Juventus.

However, could the North Londoners be signing a striker who’s even better than the Serbian marksman?

Well, possibly according to one Serie A legend.

Alessandro Altobelli said on Italian television earlier in the year that for his money, Osimhen is a better player than Vlahovic.

The latter is definitely a more prolific goalscorer, but that’s only in Italy.

Arsenal are a Premier League outfit, however, and although Vlahovic is likely effective in England, so too could a speed demon like the Naples-based attacker.

Whether the Emirates Stadium outfit actually win the race to sign him, though, is another thing altogether.

The report from Gazzetta last weekend cited Champions League qualification as a factor in his decision.

And with Arsenal yet to officially qualify [they’re fourth in the Premier League with five games to go] it remains to be seen how credible the Osimhen link is.
