Hibernian manager Jack Ross bid an “emotional” goodbye to goalkeeper Ofir Marciano as the reported Celtic target bowed out with a clean sheet against what may be his future employers, as reported by FourFourTwo.
It was a day of fond farewells at Easter Road.
As Hibs took on Celtic for the last game of a gruelling campaign, the long-serving Marciano represented his Edinburgh-based employers for the 123rd and final time.
Scott Brown, Leigh Griffiths, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie – who also featured on Saturday – are all likely to have new clubs when 2021/22 kicks off as well, meaning Marciano will be joining a Celtic side in a state of flux if he does make the short trip down the M8 when his contract expires in July.
“From our point of view, it’s Ofir’s final game before he moves on to a fresh challenge. It has been an emotional day as well, particularly given what he has contributed here,” Ross said of his 31-year-old shot-stopper, who kept a clean sheet during a drab 0-0 draw.
“He has spoken about how much living in Scotland has become part of his life from a family perspective.”
Last month, Edinburgh Live reported a Celtic side looking for a new number one could turn to an experienced, proven Scottish Premiership shot-stopper with Israel international Marciano in their sights.
Dundee United’s Benjamin Siegrist has also been linked.
Hibernian will take on St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup final this month, although Matt Macey is expected to start between the sticks in Marciano’s place.
