Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist could be available for about £400,000 this summer with Celtic eyeing a raid of their Scottish Premiership rivals, as reported by The Sun (9 May, page 59).
After last summer’s ill-fated £5 million move for Vasilis Barkas, it seems the Hoops are desperate to avoid a repeat of 2020.
Celtic are in the market for a new number one and this time the Glasgow giants appear to be targeting a goalkeeper with a proven track record in British football.
If that player has made a name for himself in Scotland, all the better.
Hibernian’s Ofir Marciano is a target, while Siegrist also has admirers at Parkhead.
We know that for a fact too because, in December, his agent admitted as such.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr Thomas Kraft confirmed Celtic had scouted Siegrist on a number of occasions, with Dundee United expected to demand £1 million for the former Aston Villa youngster.
Five months on from that interview, Siegrist’s price tag has roughly halved, with his contract now having little more than a year to run.

Celtic will now face competition from Ipswich Town, the Suffolk-based slumbering giants who will ply their trade in the third tier of English football once again next season.
You would imagine Celtic, offering European football and a stab at silverware, would represent a more tempting option for 29-year-old Siegrist.
“If I was a manager of a team down south or the Old Firm, I’d be all over (Siegrist),” former Dundee United ace Lee Wilkie said last month.
