Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez is backing fellow Colombian Luis Sinisterra to make his mark in the Premier League as Leeds United close in on the Feyenoord winger, speaking to AS

Now, if Sinisterra can emulate the impact made by the last Colombia international to arrive on English soil, then he will be worth every single penny of than initial £18 million investment.

Then again, perhaps that is asking a bit too much. Luis Diaz has been a revelation at Liverpool after all. And, as we have found out again and again over the years, the step up from the Dutch football to the Premier League can leave even the most budding of Eredivisie-imports tripping over their own feet.

But, with 23 goals, 14 assists and countless dazzling displays under his belt last season, Sinisterra will arrive at Elland Road as one of Europe’s most improved forward players over the last 12 months. He’s even been labelled the ‘best‘ left winger in the league.

And that’s some feat, given that he has Cody Gakpo and Dusan Tadic for company.

Leeds United close in on Feyenoord’s Luis Sinisterra

“Leeds is competitive. It is a team that everyone knows, for which coach (Marcelo) Bielsa worked for a long time,” says Sanchez, who joined Tottenham from another Eredivisie giant in Ajax back in 2017.

“Lucho (Sinisterra) has been doing very well. He played in a European tournament final (the UEFA Conference League). He’s earned his place in the Netherlands. He has qualities. He showed them in the national team.

“If he has the chance to come (to Leeds), he will compete. And I think what he has in his favour is that this is a league of duels. He is very strong in duels and will be able to make a difference like Luis Diaz.

“If he comes, best of luck.”

As Sanchez himself alludes too, the tricky, two-footed Sinisterra is a menace in one-v-one situations. You can bet your bottom dollar that Eredivisie right-backs will be happy to see the back of him. In a metaphorical sense of course. Eredivisie right-backs literally saw the back of Sinisterra a lot last term. Usually after he’d danced past them with a sudden burst of acceleration.

The former Onde Calas starlet will sign a five-year deal at Leeds. He reportedly missed training on Monday too as negotiations with the Yorkshire giants continue (AD).
