Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily Podcast, Chris Waddle has raved over the talents of Liverpool’s Curtis Jones after his remarkable performance against Tottenham on Wednesday evening.

The BBC pundit was being asked about Liverpool’s young players who have come into the squad to fill in for some of the more established stars who have dropped out due to injury, and inevitably, the subject of Jones came up.

Reds supporters have been going crazy over Jones after his performance against Tottenham at Anfield, and Waddle has joined in by praising Jones, even claiming that he deserves a spot in the England squad.

“Brilliant, he’s the one Gareth Southgate has got to look at in his next squad. I know he’s got so many players.”

“He’s a good player by the way he sees the game, his first touch, his awareness, his energy levels, you know, he’s got it all. He’s a player who has got to be on the radar for Gareth Southgate.”

The big question after Waddle’s comments is obvious, does Jones deserve an England call-up after his performances for Liverpool?

Of course, the midfield roles are incredibly competitive for the Three Lions at the moment with the likes of Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, James Maddison scrapping for the more attacking role in the middle of the park.

Is Jones of that level yet? Well, the fact that he’s arguably been the defending Premier League champions’ best midfielder over the past couple of months would indicate that the answer is yes.

Jones was incredible on for the Reds on Wednesday, and that wasn’t just against any old team, that was against a Tottehnam Hotspur side that were top of the table when the game kicked off.

Jones is certainly a talent, so an England call-up probably awaits him one day, but only time will tell whether or not he’ll be in Gareth Southgate’s plans next time around.
