Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Carney Chukwuemeka’s future as he continues to pose a problem for Aston Villa.
The young midfielder is refusing to sign a new contract at Villa Park, and it’s fair to say that his current stance is catching the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Indeed, Barcelona have been linked, while Liverpool have been credited with an interest in the past.
Intriguingly, Bailey now claims that both Arsenal and Newcastle are keen on the Aston Villa man, stating that both clubs view him as a player who could potentially be an immediate starter if he joined this summer.
What’s been said?
Bailey spoke about Chukwuemeka’s future.
“Yeah, this is an interesting one. This is a guy who would slot into one of those roles very easily. He’s one of England’s best young midfielders, the problem is that he’s not happy with what’s going on at Villa. He played around 18 games last year, but he’s refusing to sign a new contract,”
“We’re seeing Arsenal and Newcastle linked and they’re both seeing this guy as someone who could potentially start for them, he’s that good, and he doesn’t think he’ll get that gametime at Villa. He’s only 18 but he’s a super talent, it’s no surprise to see Arsenal in for this guy. He’s a hugely exciting talent.”

High hopes
If Arsenal think that Chukwuemeka could start for them next season then they must have incredibly high hopes for the midfielder.
Indeed, at the age of just 18, most players would still be playing youth football, but Arsenal think he’s good enough to start for a team pushing for the Champions League.
This all begs the question, why hasn’t he had many chances at Villa? Because logic would suggest that if you’re good enough for Arsenal, you’re good enough to play for Steven Gerrard’s side.
It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal get the 18-year-old, but if they do, he’s certainly one to be excited about.
