Speaking on the Doing a Leeds podcast, Jermaine Beckford has lavished praised upon Leeds United’s 20-year-old goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Frenchman has earned all sorts of plaudits this season from fans and managers, and Beckford has joined the list of football experts who have been blown away by Meslier.

“How good is he? How good is he? He’s brilliant,” Beckford said.

“He gave a great through ball to Giroud didn’t he? That aside I think he’s so exciting.”

“Let’s talk about some of his saves then. We’re always going to leave ourselves open for a counter-attack, and he’s going to be called into action sooner or later.

“I’m just glad, I think he is, in terms of saves per game, I think I saw a stat that said he’s fourth or fifth in the whole of the Premier League for saves per game, so he’s right there with the best of the best.”

Beckford is clearly a fan of Meslier, and who can blame him?

The 20-year-old who signed for just £5 million this summer has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, and while he has conceded a fair few goals, he’s made some unbelievable saves in the process.

Beckford really isn’t saying anything we don’t already know about Meslier, but it is a testament to his ability that a bona fide Leeds United legend rates him so highly.

It will certainly be exciting to watch his development in the coming years, and with the stopper being just 20 years old, he could be United’s number one for the best part of the next two decades if all goes to plan.
