Managing director Fredi Bobic has suggested that Leeds United target Matheus Cunha may be allowed to leave ‘for the right price’, while speaking to BuliNews

After turning Eintracht Frankfurt into one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting clubs – while presiding over the inspired arrivals of Ante Rebic, Filip Kostic, Andre Silva and more – Bobic will have his work cut out if he is to make a similarly transformative impact at Hertha Berlin.

Money isn’t everything, after all.

Despite boasting the financial reserves most Bundesliga clubs can only dream of, an expensively assembled Hertha side spent most of last season flirting dangerously with the drop, only pulling clear of the bottom three in the final few weeks of the campaign.

Matheus Cunha was one of many players who fell short of lofty expectations at the Olimpiastadion too, scoring just seven league goals and a grand total of one between late-November and May.

That has not stopped Leeds United from expressing an interest, however, with a player famed for his staggering technical gifts and a penchant for the spectacular exactly the kind of intriguing, challenging project Marcelo Bielsa lives for (BILD).

Could Marcelo Bielsa turn Matheus Cunha into a world-beater at Leeds United?

“I’ve met with his agent and exchanged ideas with him (Cunha). It was a good conversation,” Bobic explained.

“I told him that I am very happy that Matheus is with us. He is our best player. But he needs to change a few things about himself, because otherwise he will have problems in the future, no matter where he plays.

“If he’s completely commits to Hertha, he’s a player we don’t have to worry about. If he wants to move on, it will only happen if the price is right. It’s simple: either you commit completely and dig in – or you bring up something else that makes sense.

“I had the feeling that the agent thought that was great. That was a clear statement, he can deal with that. And it’s not like there are 20 clubs lining up right now.”

If reports are to be believed, Bobic believes the ‘right price’ for a player once compared to a young Samuel Eto’o is £35 million – a staggering sum and one Cunha is yet to justify despite his obvious talents.
