Lee Clark is apparently over the moon that his boy, Bobby, has joined Liverpool.
It was announced last week that Liverpool had snapped up the 16-year-old from Newcastle United.
Clark was a big prosect at St James’s Park and fans of the Magpies were livid upon hearing that he had gone to Anfield.
Worse yet, Newcastle will receive a mere ‘nominal’ compensation fee for their academy gem.
Harvey Elliott’s form under Jurgen Klopp right now is testament to the idea that if you’re good enough at Liverpool, you’re old enough.
This time two years ago, Elliott joined the European giants at the age of 16 and was arguably his side’s best player against Chelsea in a Premier League game last week.
If you’re a young player, this is definitely where you want to be and according to Goal.com journalist Neil Jones, Clark, who manages Sudanese side Al-Merrikh, is chuffed.
Jones told The Red Men TV: “I spoke to Lee, his Dad, just sent him a message saying ‘congratulations to Bobby and welcome’ and he replied ‘he’s made up, it’s a great club’. Lee Clark, by all accounts, is a very knowledgeable football person and he’ll have had a big say on where his lad ended up and he wants him at Liverpool, which bodes well for Liverpool.”
It’ll be a while before Clark will be able to move into Klopp’s senior side, if he ever reaches that level.
But the fact that he’s at Liverpool is proof that some people at the club value him very highly and no doubt Elliott’s emergence will act as a massive inspiration to not only Clark, but every young star of tomorrow on their books.
