David Ginola jokingly compared Harry Kane to footballing legend Diego Maradona following Tottenham’s 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle United this weekend.

Speaking on Sky Sports via the Mirror, the former Spurs icon lauded the England international as Antonio Conte’s newest playmaker, with Kane assisting Matt Doherty’s crucial goal which put Tottenham ahead against the Toon.

Whilst the 28-year-old wasn’t on the scoresheet, Kane was again in brilliant form for Tottenham as the north London side continue their march for a top-four spot, with Spurs currently sat fourth with Arsenal set to play tonight against Crystal Palace.

With under ten games of the season left to go, the battle for a UEFA Champions League spot looks set to be contested between Arsenal and Tottenham, with Conte now beginning to get the best out of his Spurs squad, namely Kane.

The striker started the season poorly under Nuno Espirito Santo. Yet under Conte, Kane has begun to return to his usual best, with the attacker’s form in the coming weeks set to play a key role in Spurs’ top-four hopes.

Indeed, whilst goals are Kane’s games, Ginola was more impressed with the Tottenham star’s passing abilities, with the Frenchman saying: “Spurs’ new playmaker, I told you, it’s a new Harry Kane. He is their number 10 now, he’s like Maradona! It’s the new Harry Kane.”

Maradona comparison is ludicrous, but Kane’s passing should not be understated

Even as a passing joke, comparisons to Maradona are quite ridiculous for a player of Kane’s qualities. Yet the striker’s passing abilities should not be understated given how we have seen the Tottenham talisman evolve in the past few months.

After all, Kane was last season the top goalscorer and assist-maker in the Premier League, and this campaign has seen the England captain once again progress as a complete player under Conte, who looks to be getting the best out of the 28-year-old at the perfect time.
