PSG midfielder Marco Verratti has been left impressed by reported Rangers target Xavi Simons, who recently made his Ligue 1 debut for the French giants.

Speaking on PSG’s draw with Olympique Lyonnais last week via GFFN, Verratti highlighted his happiness to see Simon get his first minutes in the French top-flight, with the 18-year-old also featuring in the Coupe de France.

AS reported in December that Rangers were keen on signing Simons this window. And since these rumours, the Amsterdam-born talent has had a more active role in the PSG first-team under Mauricio Pochettino.

Indeed, Simons could now be set to stay with PSG after a flurry of activity with the senior squad this month. And for Verratti, who earns a reported £236,000-a-week at PSG, he has been impressed with the teenage talent.

The Italian international said on Simons and fellow PSG youngster Edouard Michut making their Ligue 1 debuts against Lyon: “It’s nice, I think they deserved their chance, they always train well.

“Mentally they’re ready, we saw it today. Edouard was decisive, Xavi runs everywhere, he knows how to play in several positions. I’m very happy for them.”

With Rangers completing the signing of James Sands earlier this January and Simons now featuring for PSG at a first-team level, there is now a growing chance that the midfielder could remain in France this window.

Indeed, it would be a blow for Rangers, who could have done with another exciting midfielder in Simons. However, with Sands now on their books, the Scottish giants perhaps could be fine without the Dutch youth international.
