Owen Hargreaves has praised Mikel Arteta for the ‘fantastic’ job he is doing and stated that he has ‘changed’ Arsenal.

The former England midfielder added that Arsenal are lacking ‘depth’ and ‘experience’, as they look towards next season.

On the final day of the Premier League campaign, what everyone expected happened, with Tottenham securing fourth and, as a result, pushing their rivals into Europa League football.

At the start of the campaign, not many would have said that the Gunners had a top-four side.

But, given where they were only a number of weeks ago, it’s something the fans won’t take easily as they reflect on the recently-concluded campaign.

Despite the mixed emotions around Arteta, Hargreaves told MatchDay Extra on PL Productions, that he thinks the Arsenal boss is doing a pretty good job.

“Since Mikel Arteta has taken over, he has changed the football club,” said Hargreaves. “Everyone wants to get back to the Arsene Wenger era.

“But he has done a fantastic job. You think about all the building blocks they have with all these fabulous young players. Odegaard, Saka and Smith Rowe. It’s just brilliant.

“They just lack a bit of depth. A bit of experience. And now they need to invest because Mikel has put them in a very good position”

DO OR DIE FOR ARTETA NEXT SEASON

It was in December of 2019 that Arsenal appointed Arteta and, it’s fair to say, it’s do or die next season for the former midfielder.

From winning the FA Cup to missing out on European football altogether, it’s been a mixed time for the £160k-a-week star (talkSPORT).

If the Gunners start off the next campaign, like they did this season, then it’s fair to say that Arteta might not last long in the job.

So, come this summer, the north London club need to do the talking because that added depth and experience is needed.
