It’s an absolute ‘must’ that Celtic wind up signing Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis this summer.
At least, that’s the opinion of former Rangers player Neil McCann.
Tottenham loaned Carter-Vickers for the 2021-22 campaign and the USA international has been a revelation at Parkhead.
The 24-year-old has been one of Celtic’s best players this season and helped the Scottish Premiership outfit to a 1-1 draw against Rangers on Sunday.
In doing so, the Bhoys are on the cusp of winning a Scottish Premiership title, which will be the Tottenham defender’s first piece of silverware during his professional career.
Speculation is rife that Spurs will sell the big centre-back – unwanted by Antonio Conte – for £10 million this summer.
And McCann, speaking to BBC Sport Scotland, believes it’s essential that Celtic wind up signing him for the long term.
He said: “Cameron Carter-Vickers is a must for me. He’s been outstanding and the pick of the defenders. He’s a real tower of strength in the middle.”
Advanced
It was reported last week that the Hoops were in advanced negotiations about bringing the big man to Glasgow on a permanent basis.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy can often be difficult to negotiate with, but this should be relatively straight forward for the Lilywhites.
Carter-Vickers has never made a Premier League appearance for Spurs and therefore he cannot be considered an essential player for the North Londoners.
This should, in theory, be a relatively painless negotiation – well, providing Celtic pay the reported £10 million needed to sign him up.
