The Forest skipper joined Aston Villa on Friday in a deal worth nearly £3m.

New Aston Villa signing Henri Lansbury has penned a heartfelt message to Nottingham Forest supporters after his City Ground exit, shared on his personal Twitter account.

Lansbury left Forest after four-and-a-half years to move to Villa Park in a deal worth almost £3 million on Friday.

The 26-year-old had been a regular fixture in the Forest side for the majority of his time in the East Midlands, and leaves the club having made 150 appearances and scored 33 goals.

He had clearly decided that the time was right for a new challenge, but he took the time to compose a heartfelt message to Forest fans after signing on at Villa.

Lansbury wrote, as posted on his official Twitter account: “I would like to say what a great honour it was to play [for] and captain such a great club like Nottingham Forest and would like to thank the fans, the staff, and my teammates and everyone connected to the club.”

In a move which could be somewhat controversial with the supporters he has left behind, Lansbury also offered a special thanks to the club’s owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi for the faith showed in him.

Lansbury continued: “I would like to say thank you to Fawaz Al Hasawi for bringing me to the club and regardless of what people say I believe [he has] the best interests of Nottingham Forest at heart and is desperate to get the club back to where they belong in the Premier League. Wishing you all the best for the future!”

Turning his attentions to his new side, the 26-year-old ex-Arsenal man then went on to add: “Now time for a new chapter in my life and I can’t wait to get started at Aston Villa.”

Lansbury has already given his first interview as a Villa player, explaining exactly what the Villa Park faithful can expect to see from him on the pitch.

Though he has not played a minute of competitive football since early December as a result of injury, Villa supporters will be keen to see Lansbury out on the field as soon as possible.
