The former Nottingham Forest captain completed his move to Villa Park on Friday.

New Aston Villa signing Henri Lansbury has explained to the club’s official website exactly what his new supporters should expect to see form him on the pitch.

Lansbury joined Villa on Friday from Nottingham Forest, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal after the Birmingham club paid around £3 million for the 26-year-old.

The signing of the Forest captain addresses a desperate need for more dynamism and Championship class in the centre of Villa’s midfield.

Villa fans have already seen what Lansbury can do courtesy of his late equaliser for Forest at Villa Park earlier this season.

Now, after signing his deal in B6, the 26-year-old ex-Arsenal man has explained exactly what he will bring to Steve Bruce’s side.

Lansbury told Villa’s website: “You’re getting a passionate player. You’re getting a player who will do everything he can for the team – whether that’s putting in tackle and breaking up play or getting in the box and scoring goals. I want to do everything.

“The shackles will be off and I will be 100% focused in every single game. I want to show that on the pitch. I can’t wait for the first game – I can’t wait to show all of this. I will be myself here. I know some of the lads already. I am just a happy-go-lucky character and I hope to bring my positivity to the place. I relish the challenge.”

Villa fans will be tantalised by Lansbury’s talk of both winning tackles and scoring goals – it seems a long while since they have had a player who can do both effectively.

However, he has not played since early December due to a hamstring injury, and so it would not be too much of a surprise if Villa’s first January signing needs one or two games to get up to speed.
