Spurs will kick off their UEFA Europa Conference League campaign this week with an away trip to Stade Rennes.
It will be the first time an English club compete in the newly-formed European competition. Given Tottenham’s quality and reputation in continental tournaments in recent years, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are one of the favourites to win the Europa Conference League.
Yet Spurs race a tricky opening game as the north London side travel to France to face Rennes. The Ligue 1 side have been regulars in Europe in recent years.
Indeed, Rennes competed in the UEFA Champions League last campaign, a competition Spurs missed out on in the 2020/21 season.
It will no doubt be a tight and tense affair, with Nuno likely to be eager to win the Europa Conference League this season. Yet travelling to France won’t be a walk in the park for the north London side.
A stat doing the rounds on social media has shown that Tottenham have not won in France in their last five trips across the English channel. Moreover, Spurs failed to score in the first two of these games, whilst they found the net just once in each of the last three.

With Rennes eager to give the north London side a good game, it will be a tough evening for Spurs. And on social media, supporters believe that there’s a strong chance Tottenham will fall at the first hurdle.
