Raheem Sterling joining Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly a possibility this summer.
Manchester City are willing to offload the former Liverpool attacker and The Mirror reported earlier in June that a transfer to Tottenham has the potential to materialise.
Sky Sports reported on Sunday that the Premier League champions have slapped a £60 million valuation on their 27-year-old.
In February of 2020, supporters of the North Londoners were tearing into Sterling on Twitter following a heated Premier League encounter.
Tottenham won the game 2-0 but even still, many fans were infuriated that the player managed to stay on the pitch, with Dele Alli, in particular, coming off the worst following a lunging challenge by the English winger.
However, here’s what Alli said after the game on that occasion, telling The Guardian: “We were speaking about it at half-time and we are good friends. I know what sort of player Raheem is and he would never intentionally try to hurt someone. There are no hard feelings, he is a fantastic player and we move on.”
Even if Sterling had a nasty side, which he apparently doesn’t according to the former Spurs midfielder, would that be such a bad thing?
Historically, the Lilywhites have been full of nice guys and perhaps the fact they haven’t won a trophy since 2008 – when Sterling was 13 – could be linked to that theory.
However, Antonio Conte is building a different Tottenham these days.
There’s a very different feel about the North Londoners at the moment and even if Sterling was capable of on-the-pitch nastiness, maybe the Italian manager wouldn’t object in players who have silk and steel about them.
