Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Arsenal will secure the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and he is a player that would fit ‘perfectly’ into Mikel Arteta’s system.

The former Aston Villa striker thinks Mudryk is ‘so talented’ and it would be ‘good business’ by Arsenal if he is their player by the end of the winter transfer window, as he told talkSPORT on Wednesday morning (28/12/22).

Arsenal are sitting at the top of the Premier League table heading into 2023 and they are in need of a replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Hale-End star Eddie Nketiah started Arsenal’s win over West Ham United on Boxing Day, and whilst he scored, the Gunners can’t afford to go several months with just Nketiah leading the line.

Whilst Mudryk’s preference is to play out on the left, Agbonlahor backed the London club to sign the 21-year-old and make their squad ‘so powerful’.

“I watched him against Celtic and I was like ‘wow, who is this?’,” said Agbonlahor. “He was flying down that left, but it’s about who is available. Maybe Arsenal are looking at it and saying ‘maybe we might get a month and a half out of Gabriel Jesus at the end of the season’. Can we get through the next three months with Nketiah? He did well at the weekend.

“Can we afford to not buy this guy Mudryk? He’s so talented, if we don’t get him, then someone else is going to snap him up. Can we play Martinelli down the middle? He’s done well on the left, but he can play down the middle.

“It has to be done. It’s good business for Arsenal. Why not make your squad so powerful? Look at Manchester City. How many seasons have they been able to play two frontlines as good as each other? I think they should get it done – if I am Arsenal, get Mudryk in and play a false nine if Nketiah is not doing the business, but it seems as though he is up for it.

“£55m turned down? It makes sense. It’s the age. I think Arsenal will meet what they want. They are trying to get him a little cheaper – Manchester City don’t need anymore attackers, so he is probably looking at it thinking ‘Arsenal are top of the league and they are interested in me, of course, I want to go there’. He would fit perfectly into that side.”

MUDRYK WANTS ARSENAL MOVE

It’s been pretty clear for some while now that Mudryk wants to don the Arsenal colours, it’s just a case of putting the money on the table.

He recently spoke to the wife of Oleksandr Zinchenko – Vlada Zinchenko – where he told her that he appreciates the love Arsenal fans across the world are showing him.

And whilst Arsenal were coming back from behind to beat West Ham United on Boxing Day, they had an admirer watching on from afar in Mudryk.
