Micah Richards has praised Mo Salah and Thiago Alcantara for their performance during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in the first leg of the semi-final of the Champions League.

The TV pundit thinks Salah was ‘brilliant’ in the second half for the Reds, whilst Thiago ‘ran the show’ from the middle of the park, as he told CBS Sports (27/04/22 at 9:50 pm).

After a tough opening 45 minutes, Liverpool dialled it up at the start of the second half and got their due rewards via an own goal.

That lit the fire inside Anfield because, minutes later, Salah was dancing towards Villarreal’s defence and threading a perfect through ball for Sadio Mane to slot home.

After the game, Richards shared his thoughts on the match, as he thinks the away team could have done more.

“Mo Salah in that second half was brilliant,” said Richards. “Thiago ran the game. 2-0, like the Man City game, something within me is thinking ‘they (Villarreal) could have done a little bit more’.

“I think going back to their place, they will still hope they can do it. Get an early goal and turn the tie around.”

It’s pretty insane to think that a top competing in perhaps the most difficult league in the world is heading into the final month of the season still fighting on all fronts.

Liverpool aren’t far away from playing in every possible match available to them this season.

It’s frightening that they are seven wins, and Manchester City failing to win one Premier League game, away from winning the quadruple.

Even if it doesn’t happen, just to get this far is pretty remarkable in itself.
