Thierry Henry has claimed Mo Salah is now ‘better than what he used to be’ following Liverpool’s 2-0 first leg Champions League semi-final win over Villarreal on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool forward provided an ‘outstanding’ assist for Sadio Mane’s goal that left the legendary striker to say ‘wow’, as he told CBS Sports (27/04/22 at 9:55 pm).

Whilst the gulf in quality between Liverpool and Villarreal is chalk and cheese, this is the semi-final of the Champions League, so it was never going to be plain sailing for Jurgen Klopp and his players.

That’s why they went into the break goalless, but as soon as they opened the scoring early in the second half via an own goal, Anfield erupted and Salah worked his magic by nutmegging his opponent to provide Mane with Liverpool’s second on the night.

After the game, Henry dissected what Salah did and shared that he has now taken his game to new heights.

“That’s more than a cute pass,” said Henry. “He meant to put the ball in between the legs of the defender. That’s outstanding.

“The pass of Salah was just outstanding. We can talk about the line or whatever. Salah meant that to happen. It’s outstanding. You can’t defend that.

“The ball can pass and go through that. That pass, this is why Mo Salah this season, he is better than what he used to be.

“To make that ball go through the legs at a particular moment and he meant it. To pass it to Mane. Wow.”

The word ‘selfish’ gets thrown about a lot towards Salah, but that rubbish needs to stop straight away.

Perhaps a certain Graeme Souness was watching the Egyptian king supply his 14th assist of the season – a staggering 13 of them have come in the Premier League.

This is without doubt the golden period of Salah’s legendary career and it might just go to unbelievable heights during these coming weeks.

Salah could argue that he is already in Liverpool’s all-time XI, imagine where he will rank if the club end up winning four trophies this season?
