Cedric Soares is seemingly interested in quitting Arsenal this January.

The Portugal international has only managed 27 minutes of Premier League football under Mikel Arteta this season.

According to Calciomercato [as covered by HITC Sport] earlier in November, a winter transfer to Fulham could be on the cards for the 31-year-old.

And Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has revealed that the former Southampton right-back – who can also play left-back – wants to leave the Emirates Stadium outfit, but added that no departure will be possible unless Arteta and Edu sign a replacement.

He told Give Me Sport: “For example, there’s a lot of interest in Cedric and my understanding is he wants to move on, but Arsenal won’t allow that unless they bring someone else in.

“I think, at Arsenal, maybe we’ll see one or two coming in and one or two going out in January. But I think it would be quality coming in and surplus going out.”

Soares has been quite a decent utility player for Arsenal over the past three years ago, someone who Gilberto Silva labelled ‘fantastic‘ back in 2021.

However, it’s clear that first-team opportunities are drying up.

Arteta has Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White as right-back options, and Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back.

Regardless of the position, Soares is way down the pecking order at Arsenal and few would blame him if he did decide to leave North London when the window opens.
