Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has slammed Jurgen Klopp for being a ‘turncoat’ when it comes to spending money in the transfer market as Liverpool manager.

The former striker stated that Klopp ‘spends all the dough’ at Liverpool, even though he has previously criticised others for doing just that.

The Reds have already added to their squad during the recently opened January transfer window, with PSV winger Cody Gakpo snapped up, including making his debut against Wolves in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Every team spends, every team spends big, even those who struggle near the bottom such as Everton, who are now in dire straits as a result of their spending resulting in the club going backwards.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have perhaps shown how it should be done, with the likes of Ben White, Thomas Partey, Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinczenko and Martin Odegaard, to name a few, proving to be top purchases.

But one of their former players isn’t happy with what he’s hearing from Liverpool when it comes to the transfer market, as he told Geordie Pete Redding.

“He’s spent enough dough after criticising people for spending money,” said Campbell. “‘I will never do that’, the next thing he spends all the dough.

“Then he says ‘no, you should be able to spend money’ – he’s a turncoat.”

LIVERPOOL NEEDS A MIDFIELD OVERHAUL

In comparison to Chelsea and Manchester City, those on Merseyside don’t spend as heavily as that.

But, come the summer, that might need to change, regardless of whether FSG, who are looking to sell, actually bring in new investors into the club.

The most money needs to be thrown at the midfield, and if it isn’t, then not only will Liverpool miss out on Champions League football this season, but the following campaign also.
