Garth Crooks has claimed that Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should remain out of the squad following the Gunners’ 3-0 win against Southampton.
Writing on BBC Sport, the pundit suggested that the north London side should keep the 32-year-old striker out of the team until he learns how to conduct himself. Aubameyang was dropped from Arsenal’s squad over the weekend after returning late from a family trip.
As reported by the Athletic, Aubameyang was due to return home from France on Wednesday. However, the Gabon international was back in England on Thursday morning after a mix-up with Covid-19 testing.
Despite the mistake, Arteta decided to drop Aubameyang on Saturday, prompting mass hysteria on social media about the future of the Arsenal striker and his role as captain of the team.
Indeed, the situation now appears to have sorted itself out, with Aubameyang likely to feature against West Ham this week in what will be a massive game for Arsenal. Yet for Crooks, he believes that the forward should remain out of the squad.
The former Tottenham star wrote: “As for their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being left out of the starting line-up for disciplinary reasons, he should stay out until he knows how to conduct himself.”
Aubameyang can win back Arsenal fans with performances this month

Dropping your club captain for a second time in 12 months is always going to cause headlines, especially at a team as big as Arsenal. Yet Aubameyang knows what he did was wrong. And the striker can now focus on winning fans back on his side with performances this month.
With the festive schedule well underway, Aubameyang will likely make many appearances for Arsenal in the coming weeks. And the 32-year-old must take these opportunities by the scruff of the neck if he is to win supporters back onto his side after this latest episode with the club.
