Jamie Redknapp has said on Sky Sports Football (5:09pm, March 26, 2022) that he was shocked by how Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka played for Switzerland at the Euro 2020 finals.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder has added that he cannot trust Arsenal midfielder Xhaka due to his disciplinary record.

Xhaka has received 48 yellow cards and four red cards in the Premier League so far in his career.

The Sky Sports pundit has added that the 29-year-old Arsenal midfielder lacks pace.

Redknapp said about Xhaka: “I struggle with this guy because in the Euros he was as good a midfield player as anyone. He was brilliant, and he shocked me.”

The Sky Sports pundit added: “You always just feel that when you are playing against him, there’s something maybe a lack of composure or he may give a booking or a sending-off.

“His lack of pace certainly doesn’t help him, but I must admit in the Euros he was fantastic.”

Granit Xhaka an important player for Arsenal

In our opinion, Xhaka is an important player for Arsenal despite his sending-offs.

We know that Arsenal fans get frustrated by the 29-year-old, but we cannot ignore the fact that manager Mikel Arteta and his predecessors have played him regularly.

Xhaka has given one assist in 17 Premier League matches for Arsenal so far this season.

Th Arsenal no. 34 made 29 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Gunners last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process.

Xhaka has scored nine goals in 178 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Now, there is speculation that AS Roma want to sign Xhaka in the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do sell the Swiss midfielder.
