Sam Allardyce has suggested on the Sport Bible that Divock Origi needs to leave Liverpool.
Needing to leave?
Allardyce was tasked with having to spend Newcastle United’s budget in January on Football Manager, and he suggested that a move for Origi would be wise for Eddie Howe’s new squad.
The Liverpool forward has struggled for game time over the past few seasons, with Roberto Firmino always preferred to him up-front.
The arrival of Diogo Jota knocked him even further down the pecking order, meaning he has only ever really been used as a substitute by Jurgen Klopp for two years.
And Allardyce thinks that the time has now come for the Belgian to depart Anfield.
He said: “I’ve always thought Origi needs to leave Liverpool. And budget-wise, he’d probably be a lot cheaper than a Harry Kane, for example. Even though he’s done a brilliant job for Liverpool, he needs to be a first-team player every week and perhaps Newcastle could give him that opportunity to flourish.”
Brilliant finisher
Origi was actually recently labelled as one of the best finishers in the world by Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
While those comments may have been slightly hyperbolic, Origi did show his class in his last outing for the Reds.
The £10 million forward (the Guardian) scored in a brief outing against West Ham United, as he swivelled on the ball and finished very well.
That was Origi’s third goal of the season in just seven games.
There is little doubting that he could be a leading striker at another Premier League club, given his quality.
And if the opportunity did come for Origi to leave Liverpool it would be very interesting to see if he would take it, or stay and continue to fight for his place with Klopp’s men.
