After Arsenal beat Newcastle United 2-0 on Sunday, Jamie Carragher likened Martin Odegaard to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
The Gunners captain was deservedly lauded for his sublime outing, as he pulled the strings at St. James’ Park whilst scoring a phenomenal goal as well.
As Jamie Carragher expressed his admiration for Arsenal after their decisive win against Newcastle United, he also went on to compare Martin Odegaard to Kevin De Bruyne.

Branded as ‘sensational’ by the Liverpool legend in the past, the 24-year-old was unplayable against Eddie Howe’s side.
If the goal wasn’t enough of a show-stealer, Odegaard’s performance was, as he constantly split the hosts’ defence and controlled a high-stakes affair singlehandedly.
Jamie Carragher was in awe of Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard, likening him to Kevin De Bruyne as he stole the show against Newcastle.
“This man Odegaard gets a goal in a captain’s performance. He is Arsenal’s Kevin De Bruyne if you like. He is the guy that has to take the responsibility of getting on the ball for Arsenal”, he said, as quoted by the Mirror.
HITC View: Fair comparison
Some may scoff at the comparison as the Belgian maestro is a certified legend of the game.
However, Jamie Carragher has not compared Martin Odegaard to Kevin De Bruyne but his role in this Arsenal side in comparison to the latter’s at City after his side’s win against Newcastle.
Much like the 31-year-old, Odegaard is the Gunners’ chief creator and without him running the show, his side would likely fall apart.
Time and again, much like De Bruyne, the former Real Madrid wonderkid has not only stepped up in terms of his performances but by also producing end product when it matters most.
If the Arsenal skipper can the Manchester City icon’s level one day, the Emirates faithful may be witnessing the rise of a club legend in the making.
