Midfielder Joe Willock struggled to make an impact at Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta, but he is doing well at Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
Joe Willock came through the Arsenal youth system and broke into the Gunners’ first team.
Willock did play well on occasions and was rated highly by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, but there was too much competition for him at the Emirates Stadium.
After a loan spell at Newcastle United in 2021, the former England Under-21 international midfielder joined the Magpies on a permanent contract for £25 million (Sky Sports).

Willock was in action for Newcastle against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London on Monday evening.
In the build-up to the Premier League match on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League, Arsenal legend Ian Wright raved about Willock and noted his attributes.
Ian Wright comments on former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock
Wright said about Willock on Sky Sports Premier League (7:08 pm, March 11, 2024): “He is so athletic, he is so skilful. Like Eddie mentioned there, he can get into the box and score a goal.
“He is a very good passer of the ball as well. He is very good at defending, he can get back. He has got everything that you need in that midfield.”
My View: Joe Willock will get better
In my opinion, former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock will get better and develop further at Newcastle United.
Willock has had injury problems this season, but when fit and available, he is a very fine midfielder.
And, let us not forget that Willock is only 24. He is still growing as a player. Willock’s best years are ahead of him.
The Englishman has made 124 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 15 goals and given seven assists in those games.
While Arsenal are not missing Willock at all, I think that it was best for the midfielder that left the North London club.
