Aaron Ramsdale has shared that Arsenal goalkeeping coach Iñaki Caña is ‘mad about’ him ‘saving your post’ when trying to deal with free-kicks, as he told Ben Foster’s Cycling GK channel.

The in-form Arsenal man was talking about his recent save off James Maddison’s free-kick and how he has watched it ‘100 times’.

When a Premier League legend like Peter Schmeichel is coming out and stating it’s one of the best saves he has ever seen, then you know it’s special.

Regardless of what any keeper in England’s top-flight does this season, they probably won’t come near to Ramsdale’s cat-like reflexes and out-of-this-world save from Maddison’s free-kick.

After Arsenal beat Watford 1-0 last Sunday, Ramsdale was talking on the side of the pitch with his opposite number.

The England international told Foster about that save and what his goalkeeping coach just doesn’t allow him to do.

“I have watched it 100 times, honestly,” said Ramsdale. “He had a little sighter before, which hit the wall and I have trained with him a lot.

“I thought he was going to reverse it because it was so close to the box. I thought he was going to put a load of pace on it my side.

“Out goalie coach, he is mad about saving your post. If it goes in that side ‘it’s fine. But make sure you don’t (let it in your side)’.

“So, I have taken a negative position on my side and I have seen it hasn’t come to my side and I have just gone. Just gone. And it looks better off the bar, doesn’t it?”

It’s fair to say that Ramsdale is proving a lot of people wrong and there aren’t many keepers in better form than him right now.

It probably won’t result in him pushing ahead of Jordan Pickford for England because the Everton man has enough credit in his bank to keep the number one jersey.

After all, he was, once again, one of England’s best players at a major tournament.

And whilst his performances in Everton colours can be questioned on occasions, he is a different animal when it comes to the international stage.
