Stephen Warnock thinks it’s time Hugo Lloris left Tottenham Hotspur because he has outstayed his welcome at the club.
The 36-year-old is Tottenham’s longest-serving player after joining the club for £12 million (BBC Sport) in 2012, but Warnock thinks the mistakes have come into his game far too often now.
Hugo Lloris would have had many high and low moments during his time in north London, but the performance from Tottenham on the weekend has to go down as one of the worst.
To go 5-0 down is bad enough, but for that scoreline to be shining bright after just 20 minutes of football is beyond pathetic.
Lloris ended up going off at half-time because of an injury, but what’s worse for Spurs is that result against Newcastle United probably wasn’t a surprise.
Either way, many fans are calling for a clear-out this summer and Warnock thinks Lloris should be one of the players to leave, as he told Sky Sports News (24/04/23).
“The goalkeeper has to go as well,” said Warnock. “He’s been great for Spurs and he has been incredible for France over the years.
“But some of the goals he concedes and the mistakes that he makes are poor. For his standards and what he is meant to represent, the captain of the club and things like that. He has seen his best days.”
LLORIS SHOULD HAVE LEFT YEARS AGO
Towards the back end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign in north London, Lloris was making mistakes.
The signs were clear then that he should have been replaced, but a proper number one wasn’t brought in to challenge the 2018 World Cup winner.
And, as Lloris has proved this season, his error-prone ways are only growing and he is someone that should have left years ago.
