Ian Wright has urged Tottenham transfer target, Romelu Lukaku, to ‘stay’ at Chelsea and sort out his situation at the club.

After signing for nearly £100 million last summer, it has been an utter disaster for the striker, with Wright also suggesting that he has had to probably ‘apologise’ to his teammates this term.

Wright is making reference to Lukaku’s now-infamous Sky Italia interview, where he was critical of Thomas Tuchel’s tactics and spoke about returning to Inter Milan.

Well, it doesn’t help the player’s matter that he only scored eight Premier League goals this season – Dejan Kulusevski joined in January and put five to his name.

Either way, Wright spoke about Lukaku’s future with the summer transfer window set to re-open and told Premier League Productions that Chelsea have to play to his strengths.

“The players had to take him back in,” said Wright. “He’s probably had to apologise to the players.

“They would have wanted him to be back to what they feel he can give them because then they are going to win matches. But I have watched him and the Chelsea players aren’t even looking for him, so I don’t know what’s going on. He’s meant to be their goalscorer.

“You would like him to be a success. He has scored a lot of goals here (before).

“But the way he is playing, he cost them £97 million. That’s a lot of money for somebody to take Romelu now off the form he has shown, it’s going to be a big ask for somebody.

“I think, for him, he should stay. They have to come to some sort of agreement on the way they play because it definitely doesn’t suit him. So, something has to happen. That’s a lot of money the new owner won’t want to write off.”

TOTTENHAM KEEN ON LUKAKU

With Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, set to get the seal of approval from the UK Government, he will want to put his own stamp on things from the get-go.

If Tuchel no longer wants him, then it will raise a big issue, with Tottenham’s name being a surprise one thrown about to sign him.

Now, it is understandable given that Tottenham boss, Antonio Conte, got the absolute best out of him at Inter Milan last season.

But Spurs do have Harry Kane and not even Erling Haaland would get ahead of the England captain in north London.

Although, with Champions League football at the Lane next season, more depth is needed, so you never know with this rumour.
