Well, Diego Simeone to Tottenham Hotspur is suddenly a rumour.

According to CMW, as covered by HITC Sport, Antonio Conte is plotting an exit from Spurs in 2023 and the Atletico Madrid manager is being lined up as his replacement.

The 52-year-old has been Atleti boss since 2011 and has helped the Spaniards to two Primera Division titles and they were runners-up in the Champions League twice, too.

In terms of replacements for Conte, Tottenham could do a lot worse and really, he’s a similar no-nonsense figure as his Italian counterpart.

At least, that’s what Roy Keane said about the Argentine, noting to The Overlap eight months ago that the South American ‘doesn’t mess around’.

He said, when encouraging Manchester United to get him: “Simeone, go and get him, he’s a big character. He’s done great things. He’s a great character, a big personality. He doesn’t mess around with players. Maybe someone like him coming into the club could work.”

Tottenham supporters won’t be wanting Conte to leave North London anytime soon.

Yes, the progress is slow this season but the Lilywhites are in the next round of the Champions League after a nervy victory at Marseille on Tuesday.

Spurs are certainly going in the right direction under the former Chelsea boss.

Then again, he isn’t known to stick around for very long in the one job and from Tottenham’s perspective, they have to be ready with a replacement and it’ll be fascinating if it’s Simeone.
