Michael Owen has said on Premier League Productions that Liverpool striker Divock Origi disappoints him every time he starts.

Owen made the comments about Origi after he scored a late winner against Wolverhampton Wanderer on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Belgium international striker came on as a substitute against Wolves.

Origi scored the winner in injury time.

Former Liverpool striker Owen was critical of Origi, and has said that he is not good when he starts.

Michael Owen’s verdict on Liverpool striker Divock Origi

Owen said about Origi on Premier League Productions: “Whenever he starts, I must admit, he disappoints me.

“I know you will say, ‘What about Barcelona in the Champions League?’ Of course, he has had the most unbelievable moments in a Liverpool shirt, but overall when he starts, he disappoints me.

“I think he is an impact sub, but he might get a few more starts now, especially in January.”

Impact sub for Liverpool

In our opinion, Owen is right about Origi.

We also think that the 26-year-old is best used as an impact substitute.

For Liverpool anyway.

Origi is a good striker whose movement and intelligence causes problem for the opposition defences.

Just as it did against Wolves on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are on a different level to Origi.

Diogo Jota is better than him as well in terms of interconnecting play and pressing.

However, in our view, even as an impact sub, Origi’s importance to the current Liverpool team should not be undermined.
