Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Antonio Conte’s transfer plans at Spurs and how he uses wingers at wing-back.
Conte is embarking upon his first transfer window as Spurs boss, and it sounds as though it could be a rather busy one.
Indeed, Duncan Castles recently claimed that he wants two centre-halves through the door this month, while there have also been links to Adama Traore.
Ferdinand found the links to Traore rather fascinating, claiming that Conte has a tendency to turn wingers into wing-backs, stating that it would be interesting to see whether or not he tries something similar with any new signings.
What’s Ferdinand said about Conte?
Ferdinand was discussing Conte’s usage of wingers after Fabrizio Romano gave an update on their interest in Adama Traore.
“Adama Traore is a name that they have in their list, Fabio Paratici, the Sporting Director loves Adama Traore, he wanted him at Juventus too, so he is a possibility for Tottenham,” Romano said.
“A lot of the times, at wing-back especially he likes to play with actual wingers. He did it with Moses at Chelsea and with Perisic at Inter, so it will be interesting to see what type of player he goes for out there,” Ferdinand said.

Interesting point
It will be very interesting to see how Conte would manage Traore or any other winger who arrives at Spurs.
Emerson Royal hasn’t been fantastic since joining the club, while Lucas Moura has been shining since Antonio Conte’s arrival, so it seems as though there is more likely to be a gap at wing-back rather than on the wing.
Traore certainly has the physical attributes to play at wing-back, but defensively, he will surely have a lot to learn.
However, as Conte’s work with Victor Moses and Ivan Perisic has shown, that sort of transformation is possible.
