Vincent Kompany has been speaking about Burnley’s chances of keeping Maxwel Cornet, as Everton and West Ham circle.
What’s the story?
Well, the Belgian has been quite honest about the Ivory Coast international’s situation, and he sounds pretty defeatist after Everton opened talks to sign the 25-year-old.
Kompany said: “We probably have to prepare for life after him.”
Now, that is fairly conclusive from the 36-year-old.
As aforesaid, Everton have opened talks with Burnley over a deal for Cornet, and The Athletic believe Goodison Park is now the Ivorian’s most likely destination.
However, West Ham are also interested in signing the Burnley No.20 this summer, after he scored nine Premier League goals in his debut campaign at Turf Moor.
In our view, that is a seriously impressive tally, given the fact Cornet was playing in a defensive Burnley side who were fighting relegation for most of the season.
If he can do that for Burnley, we’re excited to see what he could do surrounded by better players at Everton or West Ham.
Everton will hope West Ham avoid talks with Burnley

As of now, the Toffees are the only side in talks with Burnley, with West Ham merely monitoring the situation.
However, David Moyes needs another forward to help Michail Antonio out in attack, and if he decides to open talks with the Clarets, Everton immediately become second favourites for his signature – in our view, at least.
Why? Well, West Ham can offer Cornet European football at the London Stadium, something he is probably missing after starring in the Champions League for Lyon.

Pep Guardiola even admitted he was “very impressed” by the forward’s performances in Europe.
Everton have also just avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth, so in terms of attractiveness to Cornet, West Ham are far ahead.
