According to the Telegraph, West Ham and Everton have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Maxwel Cornet, who was relegated from the Premier League with Burnley.

What’s the story?

Well, the Ivory Coast international lit up the Premier League following his arrival from Lyon, following a £12.85m agreement in 2021.

Cornet scored nine goals in 26 Premier League appearances, while also providing one assist, although it wasn’t enough to save Burnley.

The Ivorian could’ve scored even more goals, but he missed a chunk of the season while on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Now, after Tottenham already expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, West Ham and Everton are looking to take advantage.

Relegation for Burnley has activated a release clause in Cornet’s contract, which is said to be worth £17.5m according to the Telegraph.

It will see the Clarets earn a small profit, although it isn’t anywhere near what they would’ve hoped to receive for a player who Pep Guardiola is a big fan of.

West Ham, Everton or Tottenham could land a bargain

In our view, this is one of the best transfer opportunities on the market this summer, and one of West Ham, Everton or Tottenham could get very lucky.

Make no mistake about it, scoring nine Premier League goals for a side as uncreative as Burnley takes some doing, so just imagine what Cornet could do at the London Stadium, Goodison Park or in N17.

A £17.5m fee for a player aged just 25, and one who clearly knows where the net is, represents a bargain in every sense of the word.

Leeds almost signed Cornet in 2021, and they will be kicking themselves for missing out.

Additionally, with a year’s experience of Premier League football under his belt, the Bregbo-born forward could perform even better next season.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we’d be very surprised if that £17.5m release clause is not triggered.
