Speaking to Partidazo de Cope, Pedri has made a cheeky suggestion that Newcastle United target Marco Asensio should join Barcelona.
Newcastle have reportedly been in touch with Asensio recently as his Real Madrid contract winds down, but Pedri seemingly wants him at Barca.
The midfielder stated after the game that he doesn’t know what will happen with Asensio’s contract, but he thinks that all good players belong at Camp Nou.
Pedri’s Asensio hint
The Spaniard hinted that he wants the Real Madrid man to join Barcelona.
“It remains to be seen what happens with the contract of Marco Asensio, but I think all the good players have to be at Barcelona,” Pedri said.
“However, I’m not much for doing those things, for convincing anyone.”
Surely not
While Pedri may want Asensio at Barca, this isn’t a deal that we can see happening anytime soon.
The reality is that players don’t often swap Real Madrid for Barcelona or vice versa.
Luis Figo and Ronaldo are the two exceptions to this rule, but after having pig’s heads thrown at them back in the 2000s, we can’t see Asensio wanting to make this sort of switch.
Barcelona is an incredibly alluring destination for any player, but not if you’ve spend the vast majority of your career at Real Madrid.
The El Clasico rivalry is one that burns deep, and crossing that divide is not encouraged often.
