Andros Townsend was left ‘surprised’ on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning after he was told that PSG have triggered a 12-month extension of Mauricio Pochettino’s contract amid Tottenham links.

In a blow to Tottenham, the Telegraph report that in a bid to end speculation, those in France have extended Pochettino’s stay in Paris by 12 more months.

Rumours have been swirling far and wide that Pochettino could be in line for a sensational return to Tottenham, with Daniel Levy previously stating that he could always see the Argentine returning to North London one day.

Nonetheless, Crystal Palace winger, Townsend, thinks Pochettino has ‘unfinished’ business at Spurs, but this is how he reacted to being told about PSG seemingly extending Pochettino’s stay at the Ligue 1 giants.

On being told a 12-month contract has been triggered: “Really?” questioned Townsend.

Host Natalie Sawyer then added: “You were quite surprised by that weren’t you, Andros?”

Townsend responded: “Yes, has that news broke now? So, was that his ploy all along? So, he used Spurs for the extra.

“But I feel like he has unfinished business at Spurs. It was left open to a return. The chairman said before he had no choice but to let Mauricio go but he would be open to re-appointing him in the future.”

The problem that Tottenham now face is that it has been several months since they sacked Jose Mourinho and they are no closer to bringing in his replacement.

But now, not only are Crystal Palace and Wolves looking for a new manager, but Everton also after the departure of Carlo Ancelotti yesterday.

Everton have ambitions of Champions League, football just like Spurs, and they may well find that they are fishing in the same pond when trying to appoint their next coach.
