Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Harvey Barnes has responded when asked about transfer speculation around some of Leicester City’s biggest stars and his own personal links to Liverpool.
The Foxes have quietly built one of the best young squads in the Premier League, and as you can imagine, when a club such as Leicester build such a squad, the big boys come sniffing around.
James Maddison and Youri Tielemans have both been linked to Arsenal, while Barnes himself is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar.
However, despite this, Barnes says that it’s important for everyone to stay together at the King Power, but he was realistic about the fact that players may eventually leave.
What’s Barnes said?
The winger shared his view on the transfer speculation surrounding some of his teammates.
“You have a great nucleus of young players with yourself, Wilfried Ndidi, Wesley Fofana, James Maddison, there’s a lot there. We normally see when you guys are doing well a lot of speculation. We’ve previously seen you potentially going to Liverpool, but how important is it for Leicester to keep this squad together so you can achieve great things?” The winger was asked.
“Yeah, it’s important, I think we’ve seen that in the past few years. The young players that have come together, we have a great mix here with young good players and a lot of senior players in the squad who have been here and won the great things that the club have,” Barnes replied.
“But as you say, the young players we have at the minute, it’s such exciting times and you hope that the whole group can stay here for as long as they can and keep progressing.
“But, you know, things happen in football. Someone may end up leaving and then you need to get someone else in. For us, we have to enjoy it and keep progressing and playing exciting football.”
Tough
In an ideal world, all of these players would stay together and grow at Leicester, but as we know, things don’t always work out that way.
Just look at how Southampton’s incredible teams under Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman were picked apart after some moderate success.
Of course, Leicester have more financial muscle than the Saints, but if these elite clubs come calling, it may be hard for the Foxes to resist any advances.
