Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to The Athletic.
What’s the story?
The Athletic are reporting this morning that Liverpool have ‘concrete interest’ in the 23-year-old.
However, the Reds have yet to make a formal offer for the England international.
Leicester are now set to hand Barnes ‘a vastly improved contract’.
The winger’s current deal at the Foxes is until 2024, according to the report, but the former Premier League champions have been very impressed by him and are going to hand him a new four-year deal.
Liverpool transfer always unlikely this summer
Leicester selling Barnes this summer even without a prospective new deal was always unlikely.
After all, the Foxes are aiming to finish in the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season, and manager Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to sell any of his key assets.

Barnes is rated highly by Liverpool manager Klopp, who called him “unbelievable” in February 2021, as quoted in Metro.
The Leicester winger made 22 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.
Barnes scored nine goals and gave four assists in those matches.
The 23-year-old English winger also scored three goals in eight Europa League appearances last season.
