Harry Redknapp has said on talkSPORT (9:51am, February 17, 2023) that he does not think that Southampton will hire him as their new manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has noted that having managed Portsmouth twice, he would not be welcomed back at Southampton.

Redknapp was in charge of Portsmouth from 2002 until 2004 before he became the manager of rivals Southampton.

After leaving the Saints in 2005, the former West Ham manager went back to Portsmouth.

The 75-year-old Englishman stayed at Pompey until 2008 before taking the managerial job at Tottenham.

Southampton are in dire situation at the moment.

The Saints are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment with 15 points from 22 matches.

Southampton are four points behind 17th-placed Leeds United.

The Saints sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl as their manager earlier in the season.

Southampton appointed Nathan Jones as Hasenhuttl’s replacement.

Jones was recent given the sack due to poor results.

Southampton are now on the hunt for their third manager this season.

It remains to be seen who the Saints eventually go for.

But, according to Redknapp, it won’t be him.

Redknapp said: “That is a million to one, that one. I went there from Portsmouth and then I went back to Portsmouth. They are definitely not having me at Southampton. I wouldn’t even go shopping there.”
