Harry Redknapp has claimed that Chelsea midfielder Jorginho wouldn’t get into Arsenal’s team amid claims that he could make a deadline-day transfer to the Premier League leaders, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/01/23).

The former Premier League boss admitted that Jorginho is a ‘top’ player, but the XI Mikel Arteta has built in north London is ‘fantastic’ and very hard to break into.

When it comes to the XI, there aren’t any, if any, places up for grabs when everyone is fit.

But the key thing here is ‘when everyone is fit’ because when they aren’t, that’s when fans start to worry.

One of the most important, if not the most important, area of the pitch is the role Thomas Partey plays, so if he were to get injured, then there is a problem.

That’s why there is talk of Jorginho, even though he’s not a player of Partey’s defensive ilk or commanding nature, with Redknapp unsure about that possible transfer, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (31/01/23).

“I wouldn’t see where he would fit,” said Redknapp. “I couldn’t see him getting in the team, to be fair. He is a top player.

“That Arsenal team, at the moment, that starting XI, there aren’t many places up for grabs, are there?! It looks like a fantastic team, a well-balanced team and everything looks right.”

PARTEY AND JORGINHO – NO COLORATION

Whilst Jorginho has vast amounts of experience and is a player that’s very good in possession, the 31-year-old isn’t probably the player Arsenal fans thought they would bring in to replace Thomas Partey.

The Italy international has the aggression and understanding to close down space for the opposition, but not the midfield command of a Partey.

He will help control the tempo of a game, but he is better suited to playing alongside Partey, than instead of him. Therefore, if you are Arsenal, then you’re not exactly solving that issue of what happens if Partey gets injured, are you?!
