Arsenal transfer news is a hot topic right now, with the Gunners close to signing Jorginho after facing difficulty in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo.
What’s the story?
Well, the Gunners are now closing in on a deal to sign the Italy international – according to Florian Plettenberg.
Chelsea are currently focused on signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, with the Blues needing to offload some midfielders as that department becomes fairly bloated.
It seemed as if Conor Gallagher would be joining Everton after the Toffees made a £40m bid for the England international, although Plettenberg is now claiming that Jorginho will be offloaded instead as the Chelsea No.23 does not want to move to Merseyside.
The Sky Sports journalist wrote on Twitter: “Jorginho: Been told that he is close to join Arsenal because Gallagher won’t join Everton. The deal with Gallagher is close to be off. Chelsea wants to sell Jorginho instead of Gallagher.”
It comes after Fabrizio Romano told Caught Offside that Jorginho wants to join Arsenal, saying: “Jorginho is another option on the table; Serie A return has always been his priority, but he’d be open to join Arsenal. It’s up to Arsenal, if they want to proceed or not; he’s one of the player they have been considering in the last ten days.”
The 31-year-old has made 15 Premier League starts for Chelsea so far this season, but finds himself with an uncertain future given the fact his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
Arsenal transfer news: Jorginho a decent option
In our view, the Italian – who cost Chelsea £50m – is a very different type of player to Moises Caicedo, Arsenal’s No.1 choice to bolster the midfield department.
Sky Sports believe the Gunners have seen a second bid worth £70m rejected by Brighton.

While Jorginho is a vastly differently operator in midfield, he would be a decent addition for Mikel Arteta.
The Chelsea No.5 has won the Champions League and also EURO 2020 in recent times, so he would arrive with a winning mentality, which will be a positive for the north Londoners as they chase the Premier League title.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as it seems Jorginho may be joining after Brighton held firm on Caicedo.
