HITC broke the news yesterday that Sunderland were interested in Hakeeb Adelakun, and the Scunthorpe United winger would be a wonderful signing for the Black Cats.

New Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has promised his new manager a large budget to spend on players, and Adelakun would be a great place to start with their new additions.

Sunderland are having to entirely re-shape their squad, after back-to-back relegations.

The Black Cats are looking to offload many of their more experienced, higher earners, and replace them with players capable of earning promotion from League One.

And Adelakun certainly fits that criteria, as he has the potential to be one of the most exciting players in the division next season.

The rapid winger has developed brilliantly at Scunthorpe over the years, and with his contract expiring, he looks almost certain to move on in the coming weeks.

Sunderland will have to beat off competition for Adelakun, but if he does arrive, he is just the sort of player they should be after.

Adelakun would be making the biggest move of his career by switching to the Stadium of Light, and at 21, he has years ahead of him to develop.

If Sunderland do go on to earn promotion, then Adelakun would be more the capable of playing at the level above too.

A box of tricks, the youngster scored five goals and claimed 14 assists over the past campaign, and if Sunderland could bring him to the Stadium of Light next season, then the Black Cats fans would finally have something to get excited about.
