Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gomez has told 90Min that he wants to stay with the club despite interest from West Ham United.

Gomez, 26, emerged as a talented defender in South America with Libertad in his native Paraguay and in Argentina with Lanus, which earned him a big 2016 move to AC Milan.

Sadly, he wasn’t given much of a chance at the San Siro, playing just 20 games before heading back to South America, joining Palmeiras on loan.

Since heading back to Brazil, Gomez has been in great form, and has helped Mano Menezes launch a real push for the title this season.

That looks to be coming up short, with Palmeiras seven points behind Flamengo despite having played a game more, and missing out on the title may leave them vulnerable to losing players.

ABC in Paraguay reported earlier this month that West Ham are keen on signing defender Gomez, whose loan became permanent over the summer.

The Hammers seemingly want to reunite Gomez with his international teammate Fabian Balbuena, but £16million approach was rejected.

Now, Gomez has commented on his future, claiming that his intention is to stay with Palmeiras for as long as possible, as he and his family are happy in Brazil, meaning West Ham may have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

“I am calm and very happy here, my family too, I have a contract with Palmeiras and my intention is to play as long as possible here,” said Gomez.
