Guglielmo Vicario has told Tottenham Hotspur on Instagram to ‘keep working’ after they suffered a defeat during their opening pre-season game in Australia to West Ham United.
It was manager Ange Postecoglou’s first unofficial game in charge of Tottenham, and inside 25 minutes, his team were 2-0 down, including a goal from a familiar face in Danny Ings.
This was also Guglielmo Vicario’s unofficial debut, as he got a small taste of what life might just be like in Spurs colours ahead of his debut campaign in English football.
The 26-year-old is replacing veteran goalkeeper and club legend Hugo Lloris in between the sticks, with the World Cup-winning star set to leave the club this summer.
Nonetheless, Spurs did fight back in the second half with two quick goals, but Gianluca Scamacca restored West Ham’s lead to give them a win down under.
Whilst fans on social media will overreact to this, at the end of the day, it’s only a friendly and it’s only their opening game of pre-season this summer, with Vicario getting straight to the point as he issued an 11-word response on Instagram.
“Happy to have made my Tottenham debut,” said Vicario. “We keep on working.”
Tottenham’s defence needs investment
Daniel Levy has brought in a much-needed keeper ahead of the new Premier League season and now he is going to have to invest in a few centre-backs.
Cristian Romero and Japhet Tanganga were the duo who started against the Hammers, with the much-criticised Davinson Sanchez also used by Postecoglou.
The absent Eric Dier is another face that could be used at the back, but it’s clear that, not just one, but perhaps two new centre-backs need to come in this summer, with Spurs tipped to sign Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.
