Could former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi be on his way back to the Premier League to re-unite with Unai Emery at Aston Villa?
Well, the January transfer rumour mill suggests that Aston Villa are keen to sign the 23-year-old, who started Marseille’s 2-0 win at ES Troyes AC in Ligue 1 on Wednesday night.
The France international played the entire game and posted an interesting four-word message on Instagram after the match, which read: ‘Just like a home’.
GUENDOUZI WOULD BE AN OUTSTANDING PURCHASE FOR VILLA
Marseille must be sick of the sight of Villa and their constant need to nab their midfielders. From Morgan Sanson to Boubacar Kamara on a free last summer, and now this talk around Guendouzi.
The Kamara capture is still probably stinging, not just because they lost such a key figure from their midfield, but he left for nothing given that his contract was at an end.

Now, if Guendouzi is to move, then Marseille are going to demand some serious dough for the player – The Midlands outfit might have to break their club-record transfer and pay £44 million for his talents.
Either way, this is a deal they should get done because the former Arsenal man, who was signed at the Emirates by Unai Emery in 2018 before falling out of favour, both on and off the field with Mikel Arteta and leaving in 2022, is someone that Villa needs in the middle of the park.
The hard-hitting midfielder has the presence, leadership skills, ball-carrying ability from deep and the aggression the struggling Premier League side are looking for.
If it means having to secure Guendouzi’s talents for a club-record fee, then so be it.
Douglas Luiz, Kamara and Guendouzi in the middle of the park would provide that solidity and no-nonsense nature, which the team needs in their quest to return to Europe.
