Pep Guardiola’s former assistant manager at Manchester City, Juanma Lillo has raved about England and Leicester midfielder James Maddison in his latest guest column for the Athletic.

It is no surprise to see new members join the Maddison fan club as time progresses.

After all, the Englishman has been in cracking form for Leicester City this season.

With 7 goals and 4 assists in the Premier League for a struggling Foxes side, the engimatic attacking midfielder has managed to be magisterial amidst a mess.

The £50 million ace, who Newcastle United wish to sign in January (via 90 Min) has been one of the outright best players in the league this campaign.

And even a glimpse at the former Norwich City talisman’s displays will give one an idea of why he is worth his weight in gold to Leicester.

Lillo is a huge admirer of Maddison

In his guest column for the Athletic, Pep Guardiola’s ex-assistant at Manchester City waxed lyrical about James Maddison.

“One player I’m crazy about for England and [who] hasn’t played at all, James Maddison. I love this guy, he excites me.”

Lillo continued, “He’s an authentic footballer, more of a street product than an academy product. He’s daring. He has nerve. A manager can tell him to do A, but if he believes B is the right option, he’ll do B.”

“I just love this. Any idea that comes into James Maddison’s head is 100 times better than any idea you will find at any coaching conference.”

Maddison’s maverick traits on the pitch make him one of the most likeable players around

In an era where football is extremely tactically-oriented, James Maddison is a reminder of the times when individual brilliance was the be all and end all of the sport.

And it’s the individualism in the England and Leicester star’s game that lends such kind words from Juanma Lillo.

Simply put, Maddison is a joy to watch for any and everyone that is in love with the beautiful game.
