Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the-then Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri in 2019, who is reported to be garnering interest to replace Antonio Conte, if he leaves Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season.

Il Messaggero have indeed reported that the Lazio boss could be in line to succeed his fellow countryman at Spurs.

While Tottenham fans digest the news that another ex-Blues manager in Maurizio Sarri could be appointed if Antonio Conte departs, at least a Pep Guardiola seal of approval may ease their concerns.

Currently, there is a big question mark hanging over Conte’s future in North London, as things are going from bad to worse for him at the club.

2 losses, 2 wins and 1 draw in their last 5 Premier League games just shows how underwhelming Tottenham Hotspur have been since the return of club football.

In all honesty, the same can be said about the Lilywhites since the season started, as they have looked unable to take a step forward after qualifying for Champions League football.

Unconvincing displays and underwhelming results have meant a once-seemingly guaranteed top 4 finish seems a doubt.

As a result, Tottenham seem to be preparing for life after Antonio Conte by assessing Maurizio Sarri as a replacement, who drew huge praise from Pep Guardiola back in 2019 after the Carabao Cup final.

“I was impressed with the way Chelsea defended, they were well-organised and one of the toughest teams I have faced in my career”, Guardiola said after his side won 4-3 on penalties (via the Athletic).

Considering Pep Guardiola has come up against some of the greatest club teams in history, the fact that he put the Chelsea side managed by Maurizio Sarri in that very list is great news for Tottenham, if he comes in to replace Antonio Conte.
