Rangers defender Niko Katic made his long-awaited return to action in yesterday’s 0-0 draw with Brighton at Ibrox – and Gers fans on Twitter are buzzing to see the Croatian back playing again.

Katic has been sidelined for the past 12 months after sustaining a serious knee injury, leaving him to watch on as his Rangers teammates romped to the Premiership title.

After coming off the bench at the break, Katic got 45 minutes under his belt as Rangers played their first game in front of fans at Ibrox in almost 500 days.

That saw the Croatian get a rapturous ovation when he emerged for the second half, putting in a solid display to keep the Premier League side at bay.

Rangers return to competitive action next weekend when they host Livingston at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership and take on Real Madrid later today in the Gers’ final pre-season friendly.

It seems unlikely Katic will be involved against the Spanish giants at Ibrox today – although he could get a late cameo just to continue pushing him towards full fitness.

After seeing Katic return to action yesterday, Gers fans were buzzing at the prospect of the Croatian forcing his way back into the side.

Here are some of the comments from Rangers fans delighted to see the big Croatian back in action:
