Jack Wilshere has stated that he ‘can’t see how’ referee Paul Tierney disallowed Gabriel Martinelli’s goal as Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions.
The former midfielder added that it was a ‘great run’ and then a ‘wonderful finish’ from Martinelli, as Mikel Arteta’s side suffered their first defeat of the new Premier League season.
The on-field referee was asked by VAR to check Martin Odegaard’s challenge on Christian Eriksen in the build-up to Martinelli’s goal, after initially allowing play to continue.

After Tierney went to the side screen, he opted to reverse his call and then disallow the goal, which proved to be very, very costly over the course of the game.
Bruno Fernandes shared that he told the referee that he felt he needed to be consistent in his decision-making, after he pointed out that Martinelli was awarded a foul in similar circumstances before, so this foul on Eriksen needed to stand, which it did.
Nonetheless, this is what Wilshere made of yesterday’s controversial call, which just continued a weekend of pure madness when it comes to refereeing decisions.
“We spoke about before about transition moments,” said Wilshere. “And that’s a transition moment. It’s a great run and it’s a great ball. Then it’s a wonderful finish.
“For me, it’s not a foul. I can’t see how it’s been brought back. It’s not clear and obvious. If I am Arsenal, then I am happy with the performance, but I am questioning the decision to bring that back because I can’t see how they brought that back.”

RASHFORD CAUSING PROBLEMS AGAIN
Just like when Marcus Rashford made his debut, the Manchester United star was a thorn in Arsenal’s side once more, this time with a well-worked brace.
That lethal nature with which Rashford can hurt you on the counter was displayed at Old Trafford and Arsenal’s backline will be kicking themselves at the goals they conceded.
At the start of the season, the England star’s form was still on the floor from the previous campaign, but against Liverpool and Arsenal, he has started to pick things up.
With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar around the corner, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this is the start of Rashford’s return to Gareth Southgate’s plans after recently being axed.
